Income Report – March, 2018
These income reports are a chance for all of you to see how much we make on Wallet Squirrel and a chance to copy our success with the different ways we make money.
In March we had about 10 different income sources and a few made a lot more than we expected in March. Before we get to that, let me share some of the fun updates we had in March.
Important Topics We Covered In March
- Adam has two dogs and after one of them had some serious surgery concerns, he reviewed “How Much is Pet Insurance – Is It Worth It For Your Wallet“
- Adam also interviewed one of our old classmates from college who has created a success photography side business. His full interview with how she did it is in the “Starting a Photography Business & Being a Mom of Four“
- Andrew was stoked in a recent article “I Just Got A Library Card & Quit Buying Amazon Audiobooks“. He now has been using the app Overdrive to download audiobooks from his local library for free without ever having to enter a library.
- Adam shared the income of our favorite bloggers online in the February Income Roundup. These are a list of income report results from numerous bloggers we regularly follow! Many of these bloggers make more than us, but as you’ll see, we’re catching up!
- As a new addition to our Ways to Make Money page, Andrew shares his movie extra experience from college in “How I Made $80 A Day Being A Movie Extra“. It was a great experience on the set of the 2010 Adrien Brody movie “The Experiment”. If you’ve ever considered being a movie extra you should read this and learn from this experience!
- After pondering hours onto of a mountain, Adam had an epiphany with “The Ultimate Reason Why You Should Buy Used Instead of New“. Can you add to this of places to buy used over new?
- Earlier in the month, Andrew had a nightmare that he was fired from his job and didn’t know what to do. So he created an in-case-fired emergency plan in the “10 Things To Do If You Lost Your Job & Need Money Now“. He now has a plan if he ever loses his job. There’s a certain amount of freedom knowing you have a plan like this!
Income Report – March, 2018
One of the most interesting parts of these income reports is while I maintain an average of around $160 every month, how I get there is always interesting. This month my biggest income was something I wasn’t expecting at all!
Yes, this month for the first time our stock photography was the biggest income generator. That was because Adam had some photos sell on higher end sites and I guess people were buying more photos in March. The rest of the income was under $20 each, but all together added to over $68.
The other exciting tid-bit about this income was the addition of Affiliate Income. My latest Affiliate Website from our Epic Niche Site Battle has already started to make money!
Sources of Income This Month
- $86.62 – Stock Photography
- $18.00 – Robinhood App Affiliate Program
- $16.73 – Cashback Credit Card
- $10.33 – Seeking Alpha Articles
- $8.49 – Dividends
- $5.08 – Wallet Squirrel AdSense
- $4.37 – Interest Checking/Savings Account
- $4.20 – Lending Club
- $1.40 – Affiliate Marketing
Where Does This Money Go Each Month?
Every month Adam and I (Andrew) split our website income. The above infographic is only Andrew’s half. Still pretty great huh?
I (Andrew) use my portion to buy additional stocks for my portfolio. Last month I bought additional shares of Disney (DIS) on the dip since I believe their stock will increase in 2019 when they launch their streaming service. I bought (2) shares of DIS this month at an average 101.61. Their dividend is 1.58% so those 2 shares I bought will make me $3.21 every year for the rest of my life, increasing as the stock price and dividend rate increases. Pretty cool!
Adam uses his half to help pay off his family’s debt. His philosophy is to pay off his student loans and mortgage first then invest when he’s debt free. So you get to see two different philosophy’s in action!
What Did/Doing in March/April
Last month my focus was to launch my new affiliate website and I’m SUPER EXCITED to say that it launched on March 10th and it’s up! I’m not sharing the domain name with anyone right now but I can say it’s started to trickle in traffic (1,430 page views so far) and earned $2.80!
Also in last month’s Income Report, I said I wanted to refresh our How To Start A Blog post. I did this making it easier to navigate and understand how to set up your first blog. What do you think? Plus added the “Featured on Rockstar Finance” badge in our footer. We’re really proud of this!
We’re nailing our goals!
My goal for April is to include a few more blog posts and continue to build links to the affiliate website. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to link build?
Wallet Squirrel is a personal finance blog by best friends Andrew & Adam on how money works, building side-hustles, and the benefits of cleverly investing the profits. Featured on MSN Money, AOL Finance, and more!
