Income Report – February 2018
As I calculate all the ways we made money in the month of February, it’s a lovely (Valentines Day Pun) feeling. =)
In total, we had 10 different sources of income in addition to our day jobs. That is really cool! Every month I add all these up and share our income reports to show how two regular guys are making extra money and investing it for retirement. Technically I’m (Andrew) the one investing the money, Adam uses his half to pay off student loan debt.
Lately though he’s been paying down Veterinarian fees for his two dogs. Dogs are expensive. He can share more later. What I can share now are all the fun articles we wrote last month!
Articles We Wrote On WS Last Month
Andrew Dove More Into Cryptocurrency
- Since Bitcoin is back on the rise and its tax season, I reminded people that Yes, You Have To Pay Taxes On Bitcoin. Cryptocurrencies are taxed just like stocks.
Oddly that was the only article I personally wrote in February. The rest of the Thursdays (my day to write) were full of guest posts. This isn’t a normal thing, but I needed some time to set up my affiliate website since I plan to soft launch it on March 4th.
Adam Became a Rockstar Finance Favorite
- If you didn’t get our email, Adam’s article Spend Money Like The Rich was selected as a feature article on Rockstar Finance and created tons of traffic for our site. Check out what’s so interesting about this article.
- One of Adam’s friends has a published children’s book so Adam did a great interview on How To Become A Children’s Book Author and Illustrator.
- My favorite monthly post of Adam’s is the Favorite Monthly Blogger Income Reports from Around The Web. A collection of our favorite bloggers and how much money they make each month. Read this article to be inspired to find new ways of earning extra money.
- Also this month Adam shared 16 Daily Habits That Will Improve Your Life. While I personally would have loved to see more gifs, it was a great list of habits. Especially #3 (Wake Up Early), I’m going to try to get up at 5:30 am tomorrow to get up, eat breakfast and plan out my day before it even starts. =)
February Income Report
It used to be that an average month was around $60 and that was awesome. That’s $60 more a month than I ever had before in addition to my regular 9-5 job. Yet lately $150 has become the new average and that’s even better! Here’s how it breaks down.
Yes, this is still the old infographic. Adam keeps encouraging me to update this to something cooler. I’m on it!
Sources of Income for February
$50.00 – Bluehost Affiliate Income
$34.13 – Cashback Credit Card
$25.34 – Dividends
$14.94 – Seeking Alpha Articles
$12.50 – Ebates
$12.23 – Wallet Squirrel AdSense
$3.83 – Interest Checking/Savings Account
$3.26 – Lending Club
$1.43 – Stock Photography
Where Does That Money Go?
As I mentioned above, Adam uses his half to pay off his family’s debt. It’s a great goal and one I feel he has in common with many people. I, however, use my extra income every month to invest in my portfolio I share online here at Wallet Squirrel. So each month I’m buying more stocks. In particular, in February, I picked up more shares of Realty Income, stock ticker (O). Wahoo!
What Are We Doing In March
I hinted to earlier, I’m launching my new affiliate website on March 4th. It’s a pretty simple site so I’ll have tons of marketing to do, but it’s just a good feeling to say it’s launched. Yet I have tons more content to write!
I also hope to refresh our “How To Start A Blog” post adding more graphics and make it feel easier. It’s currently text heavy and I want it to be a little easier.
Lastly, I want to add one of the cool “Featured on Rockstar Finance” badges on our site since its a point of pride currently. I’m thinking in the footer or sidebar, what do you think?
That’s what I have on my plate, what about you?
Wallet Squirrel is a personal finance blog by best friends Andrew & Adam on how money works, building side-hustles, and the benefits of cleverly investing the profits. Featured on MSN Money, AOL Finance, and more!
Nice guys.
Great jump from the 50 bucks.
Nice and diversified as well! Keep it up and good luck with the affiliate site.
Love your infographic. Very succinct. Your adsense looks rock solid. Is it just through page views? I like how dividends are a very small portion of your overall income. Provides space for ton of growth.
The good thing about your monthly income report posting is is downright honest. It’s not a fluffed-up number. But the good news is, you’re not only earning a steady stream of monthly income, but it’s showing people this line of work is also possible to work for them if they put their mind to it and put the power of blogging and the side hustle to work for them. I know you will continue to grow in terms of traffic and income for years to come. Your traffic rank on Alexa is steadily improving and I’m very proud of you. You are writing lots and lots of quality content and I noticed that. Keep doing what you’re doing.
But one thing I do recommend if I may. You mentioned on your homepage you post twice weekly. If you could get up your content marketing algorithm to par where’s you post everyday or every other day, your rankings on Alexa, Bing, Google, and Yahoo will significantly improve in the next 4 months. Let me know how I can help so we can achieve our content marketing goals together. 🙂

Keep writing, keep the checks coming in, love it. Have fun and keep doing what you’re doing.

Thanks Passive Canadian Income!
It’s always a good feeling knowing that we’re now averaging around $150 vs the $60 we used to. =)
Have an awesome day!

Hey Dividend Geek!
Yea that Rockstar Finance promotion of Adam’s “How The Rich Spend Money” really helped our traffic last month and increased our Adsense. From looking into Adsense, most of that is through page views. We only get anywhere from $0.50 to $2.00 per click and that doesn’t happen too often though.
Thanks for commenting!

Thanks DD (Lanny)!
It’s a blast and we’re hoping the new affiliate website will help! More money means more dividends!
Have an awesome day!

Hey DNN!
First thanks so much for all the great comments! I’m stoked our Domain Authority is up to 30 now and we continue to bring in more and more traffic, it’s a great feeling. An even better feeling knowing that we’re earning income on 10 different income sources. There are little things we can do each month to bump those up too!
We would love to post every other day, that would be incredible! Unfortunately life has certain limitations on us. Adam and I both balance our significant others, work and life stuff so it’s tough to get out content we like once a week. Plus I’m also writing content for our new affiliate site and that takes more time.
I think once we make enough income (and we’re going in the right direction) with our online stuff, we’ll be able to quit the 8-5 jobs and do this full time possibly. That way we’ll have no problem writing more content daily. =)
Thanks for commenting!
