May Roundup – What These Bloggers are Doing to Make Money Every Month
We are halfway through 2018! That is crazy! It feels like it was just last week Andrew and I were at our retreat back in December planning our goals for 2018.
How are we doing on those goals? Overall, pretty good. There are a couple of major goals that we are still WAY behind on. For example, last month I mentioned we are not making any headway on our affiliate income.
Sadly, as you can see in Andrew’s May Income report that continued. He brought in $124.58 for the month of May. For me personally, this is another frustrating month, especially since I doubled the hours I am working on Wallet Squirrel to see no results yet. But I have said it many many times throughout the last year. You have to be into blogging for the long game in order to be successful. It will not happen over one month.
What are you doing to be successful with your blog for the second half of 2018?
The point of this article is for all of us to learn what other bloggers are doing to bring income in each month. Hopefully, you will find something new to increase your own income next month.
Here we go with this month’s featured bloggers!
J – Millennial Boss – $2,335 (May 2018)
We have featured J from Millennial Boss off and on over the last year since we started this monthly article. I wanted to bring her back into the article because a few months ago she started a whole new venture.
She has now started to sell bachelorette party tattoos and digital downloads on Etsy. This niche has really taken off for her since starting back in March bringing $341.92. Awesome job J!
J also makes money off of rental income, affiliate marketing, and advertisements. Overall, she is crushing it by making an extra $2,335 a month.
Bobby – Millennial Money Man – $59,407.60 (April 2018)
Bobby has quickly become one of my favorite bloggers to follow, especially on Twitter. He has a very real and funny approach to personal finance that I love. If you do not know about Millennial Money Man (M$M) yet, you really should get to know him. You will not regret it.
Selfishly, one reason I write the monthly income roundup article is to help me keep up with other bloggers from around the web. This is actually why I started following Bobby’s journey. It has been fun to see how diverse he has become with his income sources. Now he is making money from a couple different courses, digital marketing services, affiliate income, advertising, and I believe a new podcast in the works (correct me if I am wrong Bobby).
All of these income sources allowed him to earn almost $60,000 in the month of April. It is just amazing what he has been able to accomplish in three years! Keep it up!
Bob Lai – Tawcan – $1,459.76 (May 2018)
We included Bob for the first time last month so I thought I would check in again to see how things are going. Even though his streak of four months for setting new personal dividend income records is now broken, he still had a great month.
Overall, Bob brought in $1,459.76 for the month of May. I love looking at his growth chart within his article. It really shows you how far he has come over the years. If you are looking for some motivation I recommend you check out his chart.
Bob has a very nice and clean strategy for gaining extra income from dividends. Andrew has also written up what his strategy is in his My Dividend Investing Strategy.
Chris – Keep Thrifty – $2,500 (May 2018)
Chris from Keep Thrifty is new to the monthly income roundup article. I happened to find his income report via Twitter and it instantly caught my attention because it is so different compared to other reports.
Why is it so different? Chris walks us through his family’s spending summary for the month. I really enjoyed this as it gave me ideas for how my wife and I can better budget.
Then he goes into side-hustle income they earned for the month. For the month of May, they made $2,300 for some freelance calculators (Chris is a software developer) and $200 for two sponsored freedom stories. That is pretty awesome!
Chris then goes into their savings summary for the month. They started an experiment last month with Acorns to see how much they can save by rounding up their transactions.
Jax – Project Beach Life – $1,859.43 (April 2018)
Another new blogger to me But I love how diverse Jax’s income sources are. She brought in almost $2,000 back in April. This income was brought in through a rental property, Swagbucks, mystery shopping, Amazon FBA, dividends, interest on savings account, and affiliate income.
Phew! Jax has a lot going on! I really like her income report because she dives a little deeper into how she actually made some of the money or why she does that program.
Keep up the great work Jax!
Matthew – All About the Dividends – $533.09 (May 2018)
Our last new blogger this month is Matthew from All About the Dividends. Like Bob from Tawcan, Matthew has an awesome growth chart which allows you to see how far he has come over the last few years. I recommend you check it out as well as it shows you that you can make real money from dividend income but it just takes time.
Matthew makes his dividend income from a wide variety of trusts, funds, and stocks that are all organized into three different accounts. Those accounts are his Tax-Free Savings Account, Registered Retirement Savings Plan, and his Locked-In Retirement Account. These all might make more sense to our Canadian readers.
Curious as to what the heck dividend income is? Andrew explains it really well in his What are Dividends and Dividend Investing article. Check it out to learn more!
Outcomes
Thanks to these bloggers, Andrew and I are being reminded that we have a lot of work to do before we can get where we want to be. The one who perseveres and has the patience to wait out the storm will always win in the long game.
I think we can learn that we need to diversify more with our income sources. The more we can manage (and manage well), the more chances we have to make more income. This is tough at times though when your personal life is so bust too.
How do you find time to keep growing your extra income?
If you are looking to diversify your income sources more. Check out our Ways to Earn More Money page. Here Andrew and I personally review as many different ways to earn extra money as we can to help you decide if it is right for you.
Wallet Squirrel is a personal finance blog by best friends Andrew & Adam on how money works, building side-hustles, and the benefits of cleverly investing the profits. Featured on MSN Money, AOL Finance, and more!
The bloggers incomes are a subliminal motivator to those who are not yet in the “side hustle millionaire” mindset. People who read your income reports from time to time might become future “side hustle millionaires.” That is, if they apply themselves wholeheartedly to doing the transformation business work and believe they can turn a blogging side hustle into a future “million dollar side hustle.”
When you mentioned in the post that you’re not making any headway on income, here’s what I suggest. Get in the “side hustle millionaire” mindset of writing 2,000 words a day. When that’s done, write an article and include a link to your new post anywhere in the body of the article as a anchored hyperlink. Use IFTTT to auto promote your posts and articles’ RSS feeds on multiple social networks. This’ll “DEFINITELY” boost your SEO, future [side hustle millionaire] income potential, and keep you inspired to write more content. As long as you post 2x a week, your SEO and rankings will be around the same numbers. If you need more pointers my future side hustle millionaire friend, give a holler. You have my e-mail. Feel free to ask questions anytime! 🙂
It’s amazing that you mentioned podcasting. Just out of the clear blue sky yesterday, it dawned on me spontaneously to chop it up about the amazing benefits of podcasting. I need to get a podcast going myself because I know there’s money to be made from it. Most importantly, podcasts are good for free advertising and a way to reach a global audience using the awesome power of “voice over internet.” Podcasters who deploy podcasts as a vehicle for getting free advertising find themselves also getting closer than hoped for to becoming a near future “side hustle millionaire.”
Thanks DNN! I will keep that advice in mind!

I’m also striving to save more money and get my finances back on track. I also try to be more disciplined and I’m training with SportMe half marathon app and on a diet. Hopefully things are on the right track for me. Your blog posts are uber helpful, thanks!
You’re welcome, friend. Feel free to ask questions and your answers will be posted on DNN! 🙂

These are really cool! I always get inspired by reading these from various people, but they’re easy to miss. Love the idea of grouping them up in a roundup. I share these every month on my blog too, but unfortunately it’s so far only been an account of how much I’m losing every month haha
You’ve gathered some of the best Blog here, that I also used to come across often.
Seeing these people’s making always boosts my soul.
Anyway I’m also in the way doing great in this month.
Any way, How you drive traffic you didn’t mention here as your pin is claiming. It would be better if you add here.
keep up great work.
Nice one. Coincidentally, I’ve just published similar article on my blog today (well it’s more about how to make money blogging) . I’ll probably update the post (in the how much top bloggers are making section) to include you in the future 🙂
Thanks for sharing, WS! It’s always motivating to see how other bloggers and investors are earning passive income. The numbers are all amazing. It’s good to see Matthew getting included this month. I definitely enjoy reading his net worth and dividend income updates!
Great to see other bloggers making money! Btw are you guys into
guest posting at all? I’ve just started accepting them (and writing
some myself) at wordsbyjustin.com so let me know if interested.
Best,
Justin
Hey Justin,
I’m a firm believer in guest posting. That builds online authority, expert in a niche, and viral traffic for years to come. How long have you been in the side hustle game for ? 🙂
I need a new blog this week from you my friend 🙂
