BPme Rewards Review: A Better Way To Buy Fuel For Road Trips

WELCOME TO MY BPME REWARDS REVIEW, A FUEL-SAVING APP. I HAVE PARTNERED WITH BPME REWARDS AND ALL OPINIONS ARE 100% MY OWN. THIS PAGE MAY CONTAIN AFFILIATE LINKS. PLEASE READ OUR DISCLOSURE FOR MORE INFO.

Today we’re looking at the BPme Rewards app which provides a new way of paying for fuel from your phone and saves you money. Considering it’s gained over 35,000+ positive reviews on the Apple App Store and 18,000+ positive reviews on the Google Play Store, this is worth doing a BPme Rewards Review.

What is the BPme Rewards App?

The BPme Rewards App is an app on both the Apple and Google Play store that lets your purchase fuel from your phone. Now you can drive up to a participating BP (British Petroleum) or Amoco gas station, select your pump, and immediately purchase fuel from inside your car. This allows you to both avoid touching the touchpad and bad weather. The final perk comes from saving up to $0.05 per gallon when you use the app!

BONUS: We’ve learned when downloading the app, use promo code “SAVINGS1” to receive an introductory one-time 50 cents off per gallon discount on your next fuel up after you complete your first in-app transaction of $10 or more. This is one of the best promo offers for fuel we’ve ever seen! Here’s how to sign up and use the promo code.

Double BONUS: Something BPme Rewards recently started is a new Price Match subscription. You’ll need to pay $0.99 cents a month, but the Price Match option will automatically review the best fuel prices in a half-mile radius and match the lowest price. No more driving around to each gas station to find the lowest price, BPme Rewards now automatically applies the lowest price in the area at your gas pump. If you’re someone who drives even a moderate amount, this could easily be worth it!

Highlights of the Main BPme Rewards App Perks

In a quick summary of everything, we’ve seen with the BPme Rewards app that has impressed us.

  • Avoid bad/cold weather at the gas pump and pay for fuel from the BP Rewards app in your car.
  • Save $0.05 cents per gallon every month you spend $100 on fuel.
  • The app lets you use a Credit Card / Debit Card / PayPal to purchase fuel.
  • Combine the BP credit card linked to your BPme Rewards App to save even more money!
  • Save all your fuel pump history directly on your phone. No more paper receipts for reimbursables or personal records.

Our Experience with the BPme Rewards App

We downloaded the app from the Google Play store. It was the first app that appeared when searching “BP”.

Opening the app, they ask you to register with your email, Facebook or Google. I’m assuming it’s different for iPhone users and they can sign in via Apple.

I registered via email and the option then popped up that I could use PayPal to register as well. I never considered using PayPal for fuel, but it would be a nice way to easily track my purchases. However, I just signed up via email. When registering, the app asks for:

  • First Name
  • Last Name
  • Email

After submitting, I shortly received a confirmation email to “set a password”. This took me back to the app to create a new password that is at least 10 characters long with numbers and uppercase/lowercase characters. Since this app will contain your credit card information, you want this password to be secure.

Then it’ll ask for your phone number to verify your account. After entering your number, you’ll receive a 4 digit pin to verify your phone.

Finally, it’ll ask you if you want to receive “exclusive offers” via email or text. We declined. I’m sure there will be push notifications and pop-ups via the app so I declined. We did notice that even when opting out, I still received marketing emails the very next day. This felt a little frustrating, but it may have been a fluke as I haven’t received any since.

After that, we were in! We now have a BP account and access all the functionality of the BPme Rewards App!

What We Noticed

We’ve grabbed a number of screenshots to show what the app looks like. It’s designed way better than your normal corporate attempt at an app. Here are the main points we’ve noticed.

  • Location Services help save time. To save time selecting the gas station you’re at, the BP Rewards App can simply pop up the location of the gas station it thinks you’re at based on your location data. From there, select your pump and you’re set.
  • Progress bar to save $0.05 cents is nice to see. Your first month with the app will get you $0.05 cents off every gallon but afterward, you need to spend $100/mo to redeem that $0.05 per gallon perk.
  • Heavy push to subscribe to their Price Match. If you’re a moderate or heavy driver, the price match is a great option as we’ve stated before. However, the app is a bit pushy to get you to sign up for that monthly subscription service.

It’s exactly what you’d expect from a fuel app. It helps you find nearby gas stations, add your credit card/debit card/pay pal information and pay for gas right from your phone. The extra $0.05 you save per gallon every time you spend more than $100 on fuel in a month is a nice perk.

This is an app we’ll likely use for all future BP fuel station trips. We don’t drive enough to reach over $100 in a month on a regular basis, but something to take advantage of for long road trips. Especially on those cold and wet road trips. Let’s face it though, paying for gas from your phone is the future!

Here is BP’s video on How It Works

If you want more of a video overview of the app in addition to our screenshots, here is BP’s walk-through of their new BPme Rewards App. They summarize filling up fuel is as easy as 3-simple steps:

  1. Open App
  2. Select Your Pump
  3. Fuel Up.

I personally think it’s more like 9 easy steps

  1. Open App
  2. Confirm Gas Station Location
  3. Select Your Pump Number
  4. Select Fuel Amount (Full Tank / Partial Tank)
  5. Confirm Details Are Correct (Card/Address/Fuel Amount)
  6. Leave Your Phone In The Car
  7. Fuel Up
  8. Review Transaction Details / Receipt
  9. Rate Transaction (optional) and Close The App.

It’s super simple, but I want to be realistic with what you can expect. They are strict about you leaving your phone in the car. So much as to say the pump will lock if you move your phone. I’m sure this is a lawyer thing to keep electronics away from the gas pump.

After fueling up, you have to option to rate your transaction. This feels a little unnecessary. So I ignore it.

In the end, you’re left with a nice digital receipt. That part is incredibly convenient.

Is the BPme Rewards App Legit?

Yes, the BPme Rewards App comes directly from BP (British Petroleum) and has been used by thousands of customers already. It’s past its early adopter stage and now more mainstream for people to use. Considering the thousands of people who have already posted positive ratings of this app on Apple and Google Play, it’s definitely legit and backed by a multi-billion dollar company.

Is the BPme Rewards App Safe?

Yes, in fact, it’s likely safer than swiping your credit card at a gas pump. For years, crooks have secretly installed skimmers at gas station pumps to scan your credit card whenever you pay for gas. They used that information to duplicate your credit card and make fraudulent purchases, forcing you to cancel your card. Now the BPme Rewards app removes the need to scan your card at the pump and the app security includes biometric/password security as an additional layer of safety for your fuel purchases.
